First up – Our good friend Nathan Bransford is holding his 2nd Annual (I just made it annual) “Be An Agent for a Day”, or as I’ll call it “Be An Agent for a Day II: Electric Bugaloo.” So, you should all go check that out and participate!
Speaking of authors and agents blending together and blurring lines… this brings me to my question of the day. What two works of literature would you love to see combined to form a one awesome super novel?
We all know about Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Jane Slayre, but, to me, those are more Puff Daddy-style remixes, using samples of the real work with the heavy beats of vampires and zombies thrown in the mix.
I’m talking about a full, Glee-style mash-up. Maybe a “Out Stealing All the Pretty Horses” by Per Petterson and Cormac McCarthy? Or “Romeo and Juliet, Naked” by William Shakespeare and Nick Hornby? I’m not entirely sure how either plot combination would work yet, but so far I like the possibilities for cool titles.
But you tell me – what title combo or plot combo do you want to see happen?

Oh, what a cool idea! I’d love to see the graphic novel, WATCHMEN IN A HOUSE OF LEAVES – combination of the graphic novel, WATCHMEN by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, and the novel, HOUSE OF LEAVES by Mark Z. Danielewski. The weird effects in the house would make perfect sense if they had been caused by some of the Watchmen, maybe Jon or Ozymandias. 🙂
For the classics, MOBY DICK AND THE PEARL, about a sea captain and a fisherman sharing their harrowing stories about how much they lost to the sea.

I'd love to see a book with the adorable charm of Dianna Wynne Jones (think Howl's Moving Castle or Chrestomanci) mixed with the creepiness factor of Neil Gaiman's YA books, like Coraline or the Graveyard Book. I think it'd be pretty fun!

I recently watched The Count of Monte Cristo done as a futuristic anime miniseries. It was WONDERFUL. It's called Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo.
But anyway, my wish list, right. Ummm… I've always wanted a fairy drama. Like, something literary, but with fairies. And it would explore gender roles. THE LEFT HAND OF DARKNESS meets Tinker Bell.

Ooooh, this is such a cool topic! How about something like Speak, Liar (combination of L. Halse Anderson and Justine Larbalestier's books) OR Mysterious Skin I'm In (Scott Heim and Sharon G. Flake)OR Light Before Day of the Locust (Christopher Rice and Nathanael West) This is so much fun, I could do this all day- but I guess I should get back to teaching my students 🙂
